Women’s Perceptions of Romantic Partners and Their Environments

 

You are asked to participate in a voluntary research study conducted by Jeff Snyder, MA, a graduate student from the Anthropology Department at the University of California, Los Angeles. You are a possible participant if you are a woman at least 18 years of age.

 

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of the study is to learn about how women make judgments of potential mates, and to explore whether women’s assessments of others are affected by how they perceive their childhood and current environments.

 

PROCEDURES

If you volunteer to participate in this study, we would ask you to fill out a questionnaire composed of some items rating the importance of attributes in romantic partners and other questions about your childhood environment and current circumstances. The total length of time for the completion of the survey is approximately 30 minutes (most finish in less than 15 minutes).

 

POTENTIAL RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS

No potential risks or discomforts are anticipated.

 

POTENTIAL BENEFITS TO SUBJECTS AND/OR SOCIETY

You will be able to refer back to the investigator’s web site at http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/anthro/faculty/fessler/ and see the final results. Society may benefit if this study sheds light on the ways in which people perceive others and their environment.

 

PAYMENT FOR PARTICIPATION

You will not be paid for your participation in this research study.

 

CONFIDENTIALITY

Participation in this study is entirely anonymous and voluntary. No identifying information will be collected about you.

 

PARTICIPATION AND WITHDRAWAL

The study is entirely voluntary. If you volunteer to be in this study, you may end your participation at any time without consequences of any kind. You may end your participation by directing your web browser to another URL, or by simply closing your web browser. You may also refuse to answer any questions you do not want to answer and still remain in the study. Completion of the survey will constitute consent to participate in the research study.
